In June, we had the opportunity to attend the Health Beyond Research and Innovation Showcase for South-West Sydney. In the afternoon, one of the sessions was focussed on consumer involvement in medical research.

Carol Vleeskens, Convenor of the Consumer Community Council (CCC) for the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE) Musculoskeletal Health Clinical Academic Group (MSK CAG) spoke about the objectives of the Consumer Community Council and her experience as a consumer being involved in research.

It was such a great presentation, that we asked if she would share it with our community as a case study of how consumers can partner in research.

Carol agreed, and shared the contents of her presentation with us for your benefit. Please download the PDF transcript here.

At the time of the Showcase they were looking for additional members of the Council, though we are not sure if that is still the case. If you are interested however, there are details in the document above for someone you can contact for more information.

Thanks Carol Vleeskens and the SPHERE MSK CAG CCC for sharing your insights with us.
