Searching For Clinical Trials: What Do Patients Want?
April 11, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm UTC+11
What information do people looking for clinical trials want to know? Is this information easy to find?
We often hear that people struggle to find current, comprehensive, useful information on the clinical trials that are open for participation, and if they do find it, getting involved can still be a challenge. When 80% of clinical trials struggle to attract enough people to take part as planned, we need to make sure information about clinical trials is easy to find and useful to those looking.
This interactive Thinktank aims to bring together people and organisations with an interest in clinical trials, and using a design-thinking framework, to see if we can gather new insights into the problem, and brainstorm idealistic as well as practical ideas to help patients get the information they want about clinical trials, building on the infrastructure that already exits.
Through panel discussion, presentations and interactive group work, we plan to:
- Develop a broad understanding of the pain points for those looking for information, and those providing information about clinical trials;
- Identify the problems that require solving;
- Be updated on local and international initiatives to improve the provision of information for patients;
- Develop and action ideas to make it easier for patients to get the information they want on clinical trials.

A report of the meeting and its recommendations will be developed, and attendees will be offered the opportunity to endorse the meeting report.
Patients, carers, researchers, industry, government, funders, clinical trial service providers, decision-makers and influencers are all welcome and encouraged to actively network and participate in this Thinktank. Having a diversity of experience and ideas, respect for each other, and thinking outside the box provides the greatest potential for new ideas and solutions to be uncovered.
