FIND TRIALS:

When you want to find trials, there are lots of places you can look. However, as there is no one true source for all clinical trials either nationally or internationally, and because of the lack of transparency of many search tools regarding their data sources search algorithms, don’t give up if one method fails.

The list below gives you some ideas where to start looking.

  • Ask your clinician if they are aware of any trials that might be an option for you, or might know specialist who could know. Don’t be surprised if they don’t know about clinical trials, or aren’t supportive. Clinicians can’t know everything, and you may need to go looking for yourself and bring information back to discuss with them.
  • Search a trial register, and reach out to the contacts listed for more information. For example:
  • Australia – ANZCTR
  • US – clinicaltrials.gov
  • International (WHO ICTR)
  • If looking in Australia, try contacting local trial networks or patient/consumer groups to see what trials they might be aware of, visit Australianclinicaltrials.gov.au and search for or set up alerts for specific clinical trials, or check out the growing ClinTrial Refer website/apps.
  • If looking for trials in the US, click here to access a trial search tool and other tips.
  • Join an online patient community and ask if anyone knows of any clinical trials. Don’t know of a relevant patient community? Then join our Facebook Group and ask if anyone else can help.
  • Keep your ears and eyes on the lookout for advertised clinical trials. You might find them on posters in clinics, brochures at pharmacies and laboratories, newspapers, community-based newsletters, social media, radio and very occasionally television news stories or advertising.
  • If all else fails, google or call us to help.

Please discuss any information you find about research studies with your own clinicians and the appropriate researchers to determine if they are right for you.
